Muswell Hill

For the Muswell hill project, as a start, we visited the place, researched online, as well as in the public library, this is because no member of the group had initiative of this place. This research gave us ideas on how to make the game interesting and exiting for everyone. As a place, the atmosphere was peaceful, calm and the people were extremely helpful, interacting with the game.

Although, there is a lack of historic information about this area online as well as in libraries, this meant that the group in order to address this problem had to visit the muswell hill public library to search in old books, rhymes, illustrations, old local news and other documents. As a group we became interested in primary sources such as speaking directly to the workers at the venues and most of our research came from it.
After collecting a big amount of information from both primary and secondary resource and researching the area, we came across the most suitable places to be used in the game.

As a member of the group I have researched about the local cake shop. It became an important historical content for our game thanks to the local history content. However, when we personally contacted the shopkeeper, we were unfortunately informed that the shop was closed on the day of the game; this was the first problem I came across. It was my responsibility to look for another place with character in Muswell Hill to be part of the game. We looked on to another place and decided to involve the local bookshop in our project because of its impact on the locals.

As a positive aspect about the game; we considered making the game very simple and easy to do, with group organization and frequent meetings to address all the different ideas. Every member had a voice so we combined everyone’s ideas in order to work as a group and finding solutions for the many issues the area has gave to us. We have chose not only to use written sources but visual as well.

Although it was a long game because of the long distances walks, it was well structured and imaginative. Photographs had been taken through all the process in order to record the journey we went through as well as all the improvements we made. It was made easier and clear for the next group to follow and learn what was effective about this particular area and London in general.

There were some negative aspects of the game and if I had the opportunity to change some of the game aspects they would be; on the day of the playing the game I preferred to spend the early morning setting it up instead of spending the afternoon as this would allow the group to play in daytime. It was a long game and played in the cold weather made it very hard, so would have been more successful played in daylight with plenty of time allowed.
